Summer planting
Contrary to popular opinion, summer planting is fine as long as adequate water is provided throughout any prolonged dry periods. This allows you to take advantage of increased summer growth.

Distribution
Found in the river flats of the Kaimanawa and Ruahine Ranges, at altitudes of 900 to 1200 metres. This is a rare plant, which is in gradual decline.

Description
A grass with soft, bronze leaves, grows up to 35cm long and 30-40cm wide.

Cultivation
This grass-like monocotyledon herb is suitable for a range of sites, including cold, coastal, dry and swampy areas. Plant in full sun, in moist, rich and well-drained soil. It can handle quite wet conditions so long as there is adequate drainage.
