Common Native Broom (Tree)
Very open tree. Leafless with small purple flowers (summer). Hardy. This form has broader stems than most. Fast-growing, and perfect for pool sides.

A form once called Carmichaelia violacea
When they split open to reveal the seeds, the pods of Carmichaelia produce a very sculptured effect.
Here are newish flowers at the bottom of the photo, older ones at the top and newly formed seed pods in between.
