Serendipitous supply

When the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust wanted to give a gift of plants, locally sourced from Rarangi Beach, east of Blenheim, they came to Oratia. Not only could we provide an eco-sourced species, it was also a plant which had since disappeared from the region!
This is the Trust's story.

Growing tips: On 16/12/2014, Martin Nicholls said:
This can be really tricky to keep going in the garden. It seems to like strictly coastal conditions where it is periodically drenched in salt spray, and needs a spring-fed water source carrying quite a high fertiliser load with it. Keep moist and well fed in the garden (like standard celery). Easily grown from seed and best treated as a biennial.
