Summer planting
Contrary to popular opinion, summer planting is fine as long as adequate water is provided throughout any prolonged dry periods. This allows you to take advantage of increased summer growth.

Attractive purple tinted foliage for a damp, shady site. Excellent alongside shady stream banks and waterfalls.

Must have constant moisture. Likes wet soils but does not tolerate stagnant, poorly drained conditions, so best grown near streams. Does far better in western North Island regions.
