The male flower spikes were prominent on this plant, photographed 15.08.10.
On 6.09.09 many of the male flower spikes were releasing pollen.
Here the 2 subspecies of Macropiper excelsum are growing together, psittacorum to the left and excelsum to the right showing clearly how much darker and glossier the psittacorum is compared with its close relative.
