When the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust wanted to give a gift of plants, locally sourced from Rarangi Beach, east of Blenheim, they came to Oratia. Not only could we provide an eco-sourced species, it was also a plant which had since disappeared from the region!

Excellent first planting for exposed coastal areas. Hardy. Large glossy green leaves. Small white flowers (summer). Red/pink berries.

These are the leaves of a ngaio on Long Island, Queen Charlotte Sound. They are common in the Cook Strait Ecological District.
This is part of an enormous tree in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park at the bottom of the Buck Taylor Track in the Pararaha Valley.
