Serendipitous supply
When the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust wanted to give a gift of plants, locally sourced from Rarangi Beach, east of Blenheim, they came to Oratia. Not only could we provide an eco-sourced species, it was also a plant which had since disappeared from the region!

This is the Trust's story.

Selliera rotundifolia
Height: 0.03m;  Spread: 1m
Ground Cover
A brilliant lawn-like ground cover that never needs mowing. A hardy coastal plant that loves salt spray and stays weed free with regular dosing. A species from Taranaki with smaller round leaves than the more common form Selliera radicans.

Pretty sure I've id'd this correctly - found on the banks of a small stream at Cape Egmont. Looks just like the ones I have at home (in Auckland)!
Growing very happily either side of the banks of this small stream at Cape Egmont.
