Summer planting
Contrary to popular opinion, summer planting is fine as long as adequate water is provided throughout any prolonged dry periods. This allows you to take advantage of increased summer growth.

Neinei (Shrub)
Difficult shrub to establish. Does not like wet soils but does not tolerate drought. Frequently called a Dr.Seuss tree because of its distinctive shape.

This Nae nae / Nei nei is lying on its side and these are it's branches.
It is at the top of Wairere falls .
Nei nei is used by traditional Maori as a tokotoko for a woman, this is a talking or walking stick. Grows best in higher altitudes.
Neinei growing in the Waipoua Kauri Forest, Far North.
Neinei - Home Track, Piha. Always nice to find these in kauri forest.
