When the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust wanted to give a gift of plants, locally sourced from Rarangi Beach, east of Blenheim, they came to Oratia. Not only could we provide an eco-sourced species, it was also a plant which had since disappeared from the region!

The largest of our epiphytic Orchids with slender bamboo-like stalks and white and pink flowers. Needs to be in an Orchid mix and root bound. Limited availability.

Xeronema callistemon forma callistemon - Raupo-taranga
Lush green leaves. Red flower spike (spring). Requires good drainage. Coastal. Drench with diluted salt water.
Grass
Zoysia minima
This grass is good for species enhancement projects and erosion control. Spreads by a robust rhizome.
